MEDIUMSHIP READINGS AND WHAT TO EXPECT WITH ME

“If we are going to disbelieve a thing, it seems on the whole to be desirable that we should first find out what, exactly, we are disbelieving.” Dorothy L. Sayers

My style of mediumship seems to be different than that of many others, so it would be a poor idea to expect something that looks or sounds like someone else’s style. Many people do wonderful readings, so go with whoever really suits you and makes you feel like it was worthwhile.

My view:

In general, the sitter/client and the spirits are what make a reading be great or not-great. The medium is only the translator/the thing in the middle. Stephan A. Schwartz told us that remote viewers, which is another form of this (” ‘remote viewing’ is a technique for consciously accessing nonlocal information in verifiable ways”), are ‘the radar’ who simply view the activities and do not interpret them. A self-described ‘rockstar’ in spirit who came through me said, “Mediums are the microphone. Be the best brand of mic you can be, because it’s not about the medium but about those who have passed over. They are the song coming through you. Letting THE REAL come though you IS mediumship. It’s the essence of rock and roll’.

The way a sitter can get the best and most worthwhile reading is to be RESPECTFUL and patient, open to whatever happens, not expect or demand a certain person shows up, not be so emotionally fragile that they can’t deal with it if they had a recent loss (although of course a few tears are fine and can be healing), and not freak if someone they dislike shows up. It should go without saying that messing around on a cellphone or other distractions will give you a crappy reading, since who would waste time coming back from the dead to talk to someone jerking around distractedly on facebook and their email??!!!?? Sad to say, I have seen this happen during others’ readings, hence the mention.

Also, be sober and not under the influence of alcohol or drugs EVEN IF THAT IS HOW YOU ALWAYS USED TO HANG OUT WITH YOUR LOVED ONE. Believe me, if you used to get drunk or stoned together and that is what they recall, they’ll tell me and I’ll feel it even though you and I are both entirely physically sober.

A lot of the time folks who had a tragic passing or did harm during their lives come through to make amends, so it can be profound and meaningful to the sitter, the spirit, and to me (although I do not retain the vast majority of what comes through me). Often the spirits have me re-experience their passing (which I do without drama or theatrics although living the deaths of others is very intense) to make it clear to the sitter that the sitter could have done nothing to make it better, or that the passing was easier than the sitter might have feared, or that they are doing fine now, etc. Often they have messages of practical advice offered freely to the sitter or to explain what is going on with them now.

The usual length of the readings I do is generally 15 or 30 minutes or so including questions at the end and me meditating a bit at the start to connect with the spirit. Those lengths could change if I find it appropriate do longer readings, but it seems like ‘pithy and real’ are the most useful format with me these days.

The usual structure is that I meditate/space out/feel what is going on for a minute or so until I get a connection with someone in spirit (someone who passed away who knows you, from old schoolmate or neighbour to old lovers to family member etc). I will generally then describe that person, the appearance and feeling of them, seldom actual names or “this is your father” although it varies every time–it’s like OF COURSE THEY EXPECT YOU TO KNOW WHO THEY ARE, and that if they walked up to you on the street they wouldn’t have to say “Oh hi I’m your ex-wife or brother or first lover”. Then after a bit they sort of speak through me.

I work standing up, even on Zoom, which allows me to sometimes have more range of movement that the person used during life or wants to show now. We’ve done spontaneous dancing and taught new dances to people, done and taught spontaneous martial arts moves, done physical postural gestures from former world-class classical guitar teachers and others, given hoodoo advice to follow with specific spontaneous detailed recipes from the client’s family member who was an expert in the tradition, performed a whole big long very funny spontaneous hiphop-rap from a cute young kid, lotta stuff that comes through only once for the specific sitter. It’s always interesting and worthwhile, and such a cool honour to get to know these folks who choose to come through me.

It is not going to be their voice or accent exactly as it was, nor a lame attempt–it is NOT the traditional “trance mediumship” where folks produce jolly ye-olde accents that differ from the medium’s own, although at times during more channelling of higher energies the voice gets very different or gets a bit stuttery as it finds its level–but often there are mannerisms and words and habits that the person in spirit used during life, references to how you knew the person, inside jokes perhaps. There can be scraps of languages that I do not know but will repeat syllables of, references to songs that I might sing, whatever, descriptions of places or clothing or scenes that mattered to them and hopefully to you. I DO NOT USUALLY ASK FOR MUCH IF ANY VALIDATION OR YES OR NO DURING THIS PART OF THE READING AS THAT WOULD ACTUALLY SLOW IT ALL DOWN AND MAKE IT LESS THAN IT COULD BE. (That semi-makes me switch out of being them into being me, which defeats the purpose, although increasingly I go back and forth with no trouble. and can go back to being them for questions etc. sometimes.)

There is always some sort of message or advice for the sitter, since otherwise it seems pointless for me to just say that ‘I see some dead person and do you think it’s your grandfather?’ or whatever, and it seems pointless for a loved one to come though if that person has no goal in doing so. There needs to be a message, and it is usually meaningful and rather specific and the sitter almost always says that it applies to their life really helpfully. I am glad when that happens, and find that sometimes the sitter hears things differently than I am saying them, so whatever is best for them to know gets to them,

In the end, or at a point that the spirits indicate to me, I will ask if you can relate to that information and you can say as much or as little as you want about it to me, although it’s a kindness to me and to the spirit to say when you DO know the person and understand what is being said. It’s a waste of time to deny it if you do know the person, although there have been numerous times when people have been reluctant in wanting to acknowledge that they knew this person if the person was involved with less-than-legal stuff or things that they felt had endangered them, etc. Trauma and fear can leave a real mark and I work with that all the time in the living and in those passed, so it is okay when it comes up.

It is enough for me to know that yes you understand what the person is saying. For whatever reason, those who come through me have the habit of being very private so I do NOT see or hear the secrets they keep–it is really unusual, but they can say things through me that are meaningful to the sitter, and yet I simply NEVER know the secrets or private material, and that’s how I like it since that is not my business. It really is like translating into a language I don’t know or something–I do the job, embody that person or spirit to whatever degree, and don’t know what was said except in general. AS ALWAYS, I DO NOT DO CRIMES, HELP THEM TO HAPPEN, NOR SOLVE THEM. It’s none of my business and not a good use of my services.

I also do readings that can be called “soul readings” where sort of higher energy through me looks at the ‘soul’ or energy of the person and gives them best advice for their life path. At other times spirit teachers of different types can come through and again give advice–advice and insight seem to be big themes and people can find it very useful and practical.

So, those are the basics. I would encourage the sitter to take notes since I cannot retrieve the information usually after it has happened except if the person in spirit is still there to ask. If you record the words, DO NOT PUT THEM ONLINE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION PLEASE.

As mentioned elsewhere on this site, the price is $54.00 for up to 15 minutes and $108.00 for up to 30 minutes. These days they are on Zoom only and not in person.

Thanks and best wishes
